Pattern Description: Close-fitting lined dress has deep cowl that may be draped as desired, front princess seams on bodice, and open back.

Pattern Sizing: 4-20, cut size 12

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes

Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes and no. In principle, Big 4 patterns have reasonable instructions, especially with the diagrams. However, I did struggle with understanding the finishing instructions. I really question the amount of hand-sewing they ask for.

Adding the lining is a bit of a head-scratcher. I made a video demonstrating how I sewed it, which is available on my blog (see link below).

I also struggled with the vent instructions, and so I ended up sewing it closed.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I loved the back, of course, and the cowl. Also the overall line, quite classy!

Fabric Used: Medium weight poly crepe + stretch lining

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I didn’t use a drawstring for the cowl.
Reduced CB by 1/2”, side seams by 3/8”, took out 2” wedge from the CB of the cowl, removed the vent.

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? It’s always easier the second time around, but I’m not sure if I need two of these in my wardrobe. But I love the end result, especially the fabric, and would absolutely recommend it.

Conclusion: It’s a stunning pattern and with a bit of practice, can make a fab cocktail dress. More pictures and details on my blog Sewrendipity
