Ultimate Trousers

I was expecting great things from Sew Over It’s Ultimate Trousers pattern and it didn’t fail my expectations. I’d been dithering for a while with trying to find a pattern worthy of my favourite fabric – an Australian aboriginal cotton, with the most beautiful print I’ve ever seen. Reassured by the pictures from other sewists, I hoped that the Ultimate Trousers pattern would work well with such a bold and intricate print. I wasn’t disappointed.

Not only does the Ultimate Trousers pattern work so well for those bolder fabrics (the fact that there is no fly and the trousers themselves are so simple means that a bold print is super effective), it was so easy to put together. I used a PDF version of the pattern that came together without any of the typical PDF problems (mismatched pattern lines etc). The construction process took about half a day and was simple from beginning to end. The most complex part of the process was the insertion of the invisible zip, making this a great pattern for all levels of ability.

In terms of fit, it genuinely couldn’t be better. I fell between sizes 10 and 12, so drew in a line for each pattern piece that met my measurements. I made absolutely no alterations to the pattern itself and the trousers came out as the best fitting pair that I’ve ever owned (shop bought included).

There’s honestly nothing that I can criticise about this pattern. It was simple from beginning to end and produced a pair of trousers that looks like they should have come from a much more involved process of construction and fitting. I will definitely be making many more versions of this pattern to suit all seasons!
