The Gathered Dress

A review of The Avid Seamstress Gathered Dress

I’ve made two Gathered Dresses, long and short sleeve versions and I liked the fit so much, especially the bodice, that I knew I wanted to try the bodice out as a pattern hack with different skirts to make more dresses! I used two metres of wide double gauze from Stitch fabrics, bought at a local craft show earlier this year to make a maxi sundress which made the most of the floaty fabric qualities. The gauze was really soft with great drape! I used the top bodice and sleeve, tracing the front piece off and shortening it to the pattern waistline marking on the back bodice. I added the skirt and pockets from an old favourite, Simplicity 1801 (old Cynthia Rowley pattern). The skirt front and back have gathered sections so it was easy to get the top to join with the skirt. I added waist ties at the back to bring it in so the dress can still go over my head. I squeezed it out of the 2m with almost no scraps left!
