The Eve Dress – Sew Over It

A review of Sew Over It Eve Dress

I actually bought this Sew Over It Eve Dress pattern a year ago when it was first released but I never made it mainly because I’m a bit shy when it comes to wrap dresses. None of the “ready-to-wear” (RTW) wrap dress ever can wrap around my bust properly, if I get a size or two bigger, everything else just fits too baggy. So I usually I avoid them like a plague. I worked up the courage to give this pattern a try as there has been so many beautifully made Eve dresses on Instagram and all my other Sew Over It patterns fit me very well.

I read up on lots of blogs on FBA (Full Bust Adjustment) on wrap dresses but I ended up grading the bust area next size then back down towards the waist. I actually didn’t need to do this because of the gathered yoke. So next time, no adjustment needed. The size 12 fits perfect, the fluted statement sleeves and the dress in general is very flattering. The hem was a little long for me but seeing this as an occasional dress, I’ll be wearing heels anyway so it didn’t matter.

I made this Sew Over It Eve Dress for a Christening I was attending in early June, an excuse to make an occasional dress. This dress is also my entry to #sewtogetherforsummer. I made from a matte cotton sateen with a slight stretch.

This was a great pattern to sew, overall quite an easy speedy make. Saturday, I cut out the pattern, pretty much finished by Sunday. Looks elegant but not at all complicated, not too many pieces either which is great. The only fiddly bit is turning out the waist tie. As the pattern stated, the stay tape is very important! I used woven ribbon binding (not bias binding).

I love this Eve dress and I hope to make a few more, definitely Version 2 for the autumn.
