Such a versatile pattern!

This is another absolute winner of a pattern by the team at Tilly and the Buttons. The quality of instructions are amazing and even a brave beginner would be able to tackle the Ness skirt!

One of the things I love about the pattern is how different it looks depending on the fabric used. I chose a fun printed cotton canvas, but I really love the versions I have seen in classic denim and corduroy too. As there are quite a lot of pieces I didn’t stress about pattern matching, but I did take the time to match the centre front seam and I’m pleased I did – it looks so good!

I made my usual Tilly size which is a 3, but I took the waist in 1″ at each side seam and adjusted the waistband accordingly. The only other change I made to the pattern was to sew the pocket bags the opposite way to the instructions. The reason for doing this was so I can enjoy my fun fabric when I take my skirt on and off!

I really want to make a versatile denim version of the Ness skirt next. The only thing I may do differently is trace the pattern again and grade properly from a size 2 waist to a size 3 hip, rather than adjusting as I go along. I really love my skirt and I can’t wait to explore lots of new outfit combinations!
