Sleeves of dreams!

A review of Nina Lee Park Lane Dress and Blouse

My measurements placed me between a size 8 and 10 and made a UK size 10. I find Nina’s sizing a little more generous than other indie patterns which turned out to be a massive blessing in disguise as I was able to omit the side zip! I went for the mid-length sleeves and no optional collar or shoulder frill.

I originally planned to make this in a Liberty tana lawn, but thought it would benefit from something heavier and with more drape. This was definitely the right call and I love how it moves! This gorgeous floral crepe is from Escape and Create.

I made a few changes to the pattern:

  • Used French seams throughout
  • Made By Rae’s facing trick
  • Sewed facing RST and flipped
  • 2cm narrow shoulder adjustment
  • Omitted side zip
  • Cut back skirt on the fold
  • Inserted sleeves flat
  • Stitched cuff seams in the ditch
  • Shortened it by 24.5cm to take it from midi to mini
  • Finished hem with bias tape.

I’ve gone into more details in my blog post, if you’d like to know more.

I cannot overstate how much I LOVE this dress. I haven’t had a chance to wear it out of the house yet but I’ve been enjoying twirling around my living room and garden in it. I haven’t tried the top version yet but I’ve seen some lovely ones on Instagram and will definitely be making one soon!
