Sleeveless Granville Shirt for Disneybounding!

I wanted to make some sleeveless shirts that will be cool to wear, but will also protect my very white (almost blue) shoulders and neck from the sun when I go to Disney World in May (plague permitting). I’m Disneybounding for my trip this time, which is where you dress as a character by using patterns/colour blocking/accessories, because adults aren’t allowed to wear costumes.

I found a hack online (http://sewaholic.net/blue-floral-sleeveless-granville-shirt/) to make a sleeveless Granville, so I decided to give it a go. Four shirts later, and I’m all ready for my trip, with Mickey, Minnie, Snow White and Haunted Mansion Granvilles ready for me to wear.

It’s an easy pattern to follow with a lovely shaped fit around the waist, and a curved hemline. The only slightly tricky part is getting the collar to line up properly. The pattern gives viscose as a fabric option, but my red viscose version ended up in the bin because even with stay stitching, the neckline went so out of shape that the collar was impossible to get in. I would go for a cotton lawn, or something else stable like that, although I used a slightly thicker poplin for the Minnie and Haunted Mansion shirts and it’s worked out fine. The pockets and topstitching details give it a polished look and a chance to add some fun customisation with quirky buttons or different coloured thread.

I will definitely make this shirt again!
