Simplicity Misses’ Tops 8454

This was a super fun sewing project. I used our beautiful cotton lawn dark floral fabric still available on our website.

I cut a size 14, but sewed a 12 to allow for any fitting adjustments. I added back darts for a more fitted silhouette because I wanted to tuck it into a skirt. I also made my usual high round back and forward shoulder adjustments and wrote a tutorial all about how to do it, which you can find on my blog.

I thought the ruffles looked like they might be complicated to sew, but they were super duper easy! I omitted the ruffles from the sleeve seams because it felt a bit too ‘ruffly’ and I wanted to be able to layer with a cardigan.

The only technique a beginner might find tricky is sewing the bias binding round the neckline and cuffs. You have to pull the binding slightly as you sew to ensure the neckline isn’t baggy. I also chose to overlock the hems, press in place and stitch down rather than sew a narrow hem out of preference.

All in all a really fun project and pretty easy to make!
