Simplicity Amazing Fit dress 1652

I made this dress three times and think it is a great wardrobe staple. The basic pattern is really versatile.

My first dress has the angled yokes in the back with an metallic zipper: http://exclamation-point.de/english-roses-oma-gedaechtnis-kleid-memademittwoch-14/
The second one is made from a houndstooth wool-linen blend and more businesslike: http://exclamation-point.de/wiederholungstat-das-business-sommerkleid/
And the third one is made from a cotton fabric with vintage lace in the back: http://exclamation-point.de/valerie-simplicity-1652-memademittwoch-42/
(in German)

I cut a 10 after my experience with New Look. The measurements on the back of the envelope for the size I chose don’t conform with my body measurements and I am only familiar with German/European sizing systems, but the dress fits like a dream.

I didn’t use the instructions, so I can’t say if they are easy to follow or not. For people with experience in sewing clothes the process should be pretty straightforward and instructions aren’t really necessary, in my opinion.

I was really surprised how well this dress fit! I just had to take away about 1,5cm above the bust, otherwise everything was fine — the yokes in the back were overlapping for me, which isn’t intended; I have rather narrow shoulders. But I actually liked the overlapping yokes – they remind me of the Belladonne dress by deer & doe – so I didn’t alter them and used tiny poppers to close them. I would make the dress with overlapping yokes again, should I choose this option in the future once more, instead of the hook-and-eye-closure.
I also omitted the tabs.

Using this pattern was a great experience for me, because Burda and BurdaStyle patterns (the go-to mainstream pattern company here in Germany) don’t fit me well even when I combine sizes and I have to make a muslin for every single garment. Really annoying! This was my first Simplicity Dress and “Amazing Fit” really says it all.

Conclusion: I am so in love with this pattern. I really recommend it to people with a similar build to mine. I don’t know if this pattern will fit tall, slim persons very well, but for me it works out perfectly.
