Safiya – simple comfort

Reviewed by aitchey on 7th July, 2020

The Safiya trousers have a comfy waistline but they don’t stray into full pyjama mode, depending on the fabric you use and what you pair them with.

As the book they come from promises, they are indeed a really simple make. The pockets are nice and roomy, and they’re secured into the waistband, not just the side seam – which I love. Perfect for the two-phone work life I’m currently living. Bear in mind though – a nice strong elastic is needed if you plan on using the pockets heavily.

Tilly holds your hand every step of the way. However, You do have to be careful to be looking at the right instructions as the book has several levels of difficulty, and I almost sewed up the side seams before remembering I wanted the version with pockets. The book gives time estimates for each step, and for both pairs I was considerably slower. I may just be a slow sewer, or it could be that I was using french seams the second time.

The fabric requirements are pretty spot on, at least for me as a tall girl who usually has to add an inch or two.
