Perfect summer dress

A review of Chalk and Notch Fringe Dress and Blouse

This a lovely pattern for a summer dress. There are two bodice versions, one with a button front and the other with a keyhole neck. The sleeves can be made with folded cuffs and button tabs or left longer. There is a also a blouse option, which I haven’t yet tried. I made the version with button front and sleeve tabs in cotton lawn, which worked really well, and it would also be great in a fabric with more drape such as viscose.
The instructions are clear and well-illustrated, and include an abbreviated set for quick reference. I found the instructions particularly helpful on sizing and there is advice on common pattern adjustments, such as how to use the waist darts to grade between sizes.  The pattern includes two cup sizes, A/B and C/D.
I used the finished garment measurements to choose a straight size 8, and after a tissue fit of the bodice, lowered the waist dart points by about an inch and used the size 10 dart legs to create a bit more ease at the waist. For me this gave a perfect fit. It’s a pull-on dress so important not to have the waist too tight in order to be able to get it over your upper body.

The pattern pieces came together very smoothly and I enjoyed all the sewing. I’m not certain whether I like the high/low hem on me, but that’s just personal taste, and would be easy to level off. Super pleased with my dress though and will definitely use this excellent pattern again.
