My new favourite dress!

A review of Waves & Wild Kinjarling Dress

The Kinjarling dress is easy to sew, comfy to wear and great for showing off pretty printed fabric!

It’s nice to have some options within the pattern so you could make a slightly different dress every time if you wanted. For this version, I used the round neckline (with facing), in-seam pockets, calf-length skirt and no waist ties.

The instructions have a good level of detail and are easy to follow. Having said that, I did go a bit off-piste – the instructions have you sew the whole front and whole back and then join them all down the side seams to make the dress, but I sewed the bodice and skirt and then joined them at the waist.

The instructions use French seams for everything but the waist seam. This is a nice touch because it gives a clean and neat finish on the inside, but with the fabric I used (a medium-weight cotton), I found that the seams around the pockets were a bit bulky so if I make another Kinjarling in a similar fabric, I’d probably just use French seams on the bodice and use regular seams on the skirt.

I made the size recommended for my measurements and the fit turned out nicely – it’s relaxed as intended, but not too oversized or baggy. The only adjustment I made was to lengthen the bodice by 1.5″, which is normal for me.
