‘More Than Meets The Eye’ Ashton tank top

There is definitely more than meets the eye with this tank pattern. It’s a classic ageless style that can be made up with both soft and drapey wovens and those with more structure, depending on the finish that you would like. I chose a cotton (poplin I think).

The pattern is a basic sleeveless a-line tank style and gives you the option of a cropped or hip length. The reason that this pattern gives you more is that the finishing details are beautiful. You have the choice of finishing the neck and arms with either bias or facing pieces. I went for facings because I just think sometimes a facing sits better than bias on these seams, although totally up to you. The facing is attached using the burrito method, I mean who doesn’t like that act of magic in a sewing project!

Also (although I didn’t use this on this make as it is my first Ashton and I wanted to get the length right), there is a hem facing. Yes, a hem facing – how totally luxurious and gives this pattern a 10/10 before I even started!

Sadly, as this was my first make, there were mistakes. On tissue fitting the pattern before cutting out I thought I would need to lower the bust dart by 2cm, turns out it was in the correct place in the first place, ho hum, I can live with this and I’ll be moving the dart back to where it was in the first place for my next version.
