Mad for Madeleine

A review of Victory Patterns Madeleine Skirt

I’ve wanted to make the Madeleine pattern for a while but it took me some time to find the perfect fabric for it. I knew I wanted a denim one but it needed to be the right denim. I finally found the perfect denim for it last summer. I’m glad I took my time to find the right fabric because the skirt turned out exactly as I’d envisaged.

It’s a wonderful pattern. I enjoyed the making process immensely. I find topstitching very meditative and there’s A LOT of that here. Enormous pockets – in fact, I lost my car keys in them the first time I wore it – and gorgeous, unique details like the removable suspenders and the lapped zip make this a very special skirt indeed.

I made a straight size 8 and the fit is perfect. The instructions were clear and very well written. I was a little concerned about inserting the lapped zipper but it all came together without a hitch. I highly recommend this pattern. A few people mentioned that it came up big on the waist but for me it was fine.

I wrote a blog post with more photos and details here.
