Lovely pattern and just as lovely final garment

A review of Merchant & Mills Omilie Top or Dress

The first time I saw the pattern I instantly knew there was something  special for that dress. It was delicate and kind of timeless in a way that it felt to be more than a piece of garment. It was elegant and and it seemed to carry with it kind of like silent beauty. I guess that is the best way to describe how it was seen to my eyes.

I had 3m of linen in my stash also from Merchant and Mills and I hoped it would work for this dress. I wasn’t sure and I was afraid it would be too heavy as a fabric. But fortunately it did not. I had 3 meters of fabric and I played around with patternpieces and was able to get a long sleeved version in size 12 out of it.  It is also my usual size and it was perfect.

Construction was clever. And especially corners needed some extra attention. Instructions and specially illustrations were good. One odd thing for me happened though. I had to set the patternpieces for the top part right side facing down in favour to get the button placket on my left hand side. But it is propably just me wanting them to be on my left hand side. But because of that I had to pay attention more than usual while sewing and setting facings which side is to be up in order to get them as pieces of fabric right side up. If that makes sense. But otherwise it was clear.  I ‘d say some sewing experience is good to have but if willing to take a step further and with carefull handle final garment should be possible to achieve. Fortunately the notches and markings on the patternpieces are also very clear and very helpfull.

I am really loving the finished garment. It is one of my all time favourites. And couldn’t be happier.  Not least because  of subtle coloured linen. But also because it worked so well with the pattern.

Highly recommend both.
