A review of Closet Core Patterns Kelly Anorak

I followed Lauren’s tutorial from Guthrie & Ghani and quilted thinsulate and Liberty cotton lawn for the lining The outer is Millerain oilskin in aubergine from her shop as well, it is made with sahara stay wax so it feel dry to touch and is washable. I also used the lining kelly expansion and the sew-alongs on the closetcase website. I did remove the pleat on the back lining because there was too much bulk with the insulation.

I’ve never made anything like this before and the entire project took me a bit less than two weeks, with working full time. The tutorials and sew-alongs are very helpful. If you are using the lining expansion, make sure you follow the lining instructions and not the normal Kelly instructions.

I initially misread the instructions and cut the pockets down too small after making the top flap so pay attention if you haven’t made gusseted pockets before, like me. Fortunately I had enough leftover to remake them after deciding I couldn’t live with smaller pockets.

I am really happy with the fit. I haven’t made any closetcase patterns before and my measurements were closest to the size 8 but I decided to size up to a 10 since my lining is bulky and I wanted to be able to fit layers underneath.

Overall, it is a challenging but a very rewarding and practical make! I’ve been wearing mine almost everyday since I finished it a few weeks ago.
