Hummingbird shorts

An excellent basic shorts pattern.  It would be very good for a beginner. Could be used many times over for all children from ages 1 – 10 years old. A children’s Summer wardrobe staple.

It takes less than a metre of fabric so smaller sizes are excellent for using up surplus fabric after a project if you have any.

The instructions were very easy to follow as they included clear photographs of each step. They would be particularly good instructions for a beginner as they also included additional guidance on such things as piecing together the PDF pattern pieces and techniques such as stitch in the ditch for the waistband and how to stich down the elastic in the waistband to stop it rolling over.

The pattern pieces all fit together beautifully – there was no lengthen/shorten line on the shorts or trousers but could easily be drawn on.

Paper saving tip – if you only want the shorts not the trousers you only need to print out the first 10 sides of the PDF, not the remaining 8.

I used some Liberty print inside the pockets as the denim was fairly weighty for a child’s short, plus it looks secretly very nice!
