Floral Myosotis Dress

Love this pattern from Deer & Doe – Overall this was an enjoyable straightforward sew, I love the V neckline, mandarin collar, and swooshy ruffled tiers! When choosing what size to cut it’s worth looking at the finished garment measurements as there’s a lot of ease built into the dress.

My modifications:

  • Added waist ties and brought in side seams by 1cm to create a more fitted bodice.
  • Lengthened the skirt and ruffle pieces for a midi length
  • Different construction method for the collar – I attached the unfolded edge of the collar to the neckline, right sides together. After sewing this, I then turned the collar over to the right side, and stitched in the ditch to enclose the raw edges.

Worth noting that if you staystitch your neckline pieces, you may need to clip into the curve (up to the staystitching) in order for the notches to match up correctly between the neckline and the collar. Also be sure to pin the collar to the neckline along the stitching line – not the raw edges! Both of these are probably obvious, but I spent way too much time with the seam ripper before figuring this out!
