Flint pants and shorts

A review of Megan Nielsen Flint Pants and Shorts

This is technically the 4th pair of flint shorts I have made now. The first being a toile to get the crotch curve right (having a bit of “junk in the trunk” that adjustment is usually a requirement) my first proper pair were comfortable and a step up from a basic pair of shorts. The flint pants/shorts have an unusual opening disguised in the left pocket (reminder to self – don’t put anything important in the left pocket) my first and second proper pair had a tie closure so I decided to push the boat out and make the closure on the final pair button and buttonhole. I used 100% Cotton for my 1st and last pair and a polycotton for the other, all being of similar weight and drape they sewed up easily. Megan’s instructions were very comprehensive and although the pocket closure was less straight forward, with a couple of read throughs of the directions its construction was easy enough. The pattern has pleats in the front and darts in the back, if you have a fuller tummy it may be more flattering to draft out the pleats. The legs are wide enough to accommodate a fuller lower half with minimal tweaking for waist and hips. I added 2″ to the leg length but the deep hem in the pattern does allow for them to be rolled up if needed. Clearly I really like this pattern otherwise I wouldn’t have made quite so many. Sadly now the heatwave in the UK seems to have ended I wonder when I will have an opportunity to wear them… Oh well there’s always next year! 🙂
