Don’t sit down in this skirt

A review of I AM Patterns Julie Skirt

I’m afraid I’m not in love with this pattern. I made version D with the tie waistband. While the skirt fits me well, the cut is such that the skirt opens up significantly when sitting down so much so that I would not be comfortable wearing it to work. Of course you could put a button at the (wrap) opening, but that would result in the fabric bunching up when sitting down. So this is a ‘standing up’ skirt only. Also, the English instructions are not always easy to understand and are often awkwardly written, which may be a translation issue. I did also spot a mistake in the list of pattern pieces needed for version D: Pattern piece no. 5 is not needed for this version. The graphic shows this correctly, but the bullet point list doesn’t. Moreover, the process for assembling the tie waistband results in a very untidy finish and I think there are much better ways of sewing the waistband. I would only recommend this pattern if you want this as a ‘stand up’ skirt only and already know what you are doing and know a better way of sewing the tie waistband. For me, this is a pass.
