Coco – Tilly and the Buttons

A review of Tilly and the Buttons Coco Top and Dress

So, I saw this dress at Anthropologie and wanted to replicate it. I’ve been on a grommet kick lately so this was right up my alley.
The Coco dress by Tilly and the buttons was the perfect choice.

Construction:
I didn’t want the A-line to be too pronounced so I took a wedge out of the pattern before cutting it out.
To achieve this hack I split the sleeves in half and added a 1.5-inch seam allowance that I interfaced to give support to the weight of the grommets. Once the grommets were in, I attached the sleeves to the dress and the rest was straightforward.
Another thing I did was to draft a facing of the boat neck and topstitch it. I got the idea from the Japanese book: She Wears the Pants. I also lengthened the back facing just like the inspiration dress.

Will I sew it again?
I will sew this pattern again with the funnel neck for fall maybe. It’s such a cute dress!

Grommets can really add a nice touch to any garment. I’ve been seeing them a lot in RTW and I want to put them everywhere as well.

The Anthropologie dress cost $138, I was able to make mine for a third of that cost.

More details on how I constructed the sleeves on my blog.
