Butterick dress 5747

This was the first dress I ever made and it was a very quick and easy make. I used a linen upholstery fabric and I’m roughly a size US6/AU10 and I’m sorry to say I completely ignored the sizing on the back of the packet and only paid attention to finished garment measurements on the pattern pieces to get the right fit for me. I think I mostly went with a 10. I did some minor adjustments to work better with my body, like adding additional pleats to compensate for a smaller waist. I mostly followed the instructions but there were some parts that referenced the waistband that I didn’t quite understand so I went with my gut instead. The next time, I will slim down the pencil skirt–Just couldn’t do that with all the pattern matching going on through the skirt. All in all, I’m pretty happy with how it turned out!

Tips I could offer for making this pattern: Use pinking shears to clip the seam allowances out of the collar for a smooth shape. I see a lot of people attempt this pattern and don’t quite get the corners to sit as nice as they could and insufficient clipping is always the culprit.
