Burnside Bibs Pinafore Dress

A review of Simplicity Pinafore Dress S8641

I am so chuffed with this dress. I actually had intended to make this dress during the Summer, but things got in the way and now finally I have got around to sewing it, and boy am I glad I have.

This Simplicity pattern is a colab between themselves and Sew House Seven. The Burnside Bibs from Sew House Seven are legendary in the sewing community and this is the dress version. It’s a pinafore dress which has the options of skirt length/width, pocket variations and the choice of either a straight or curved bib top.

The pattern was clear, and I really enjoyed making this one. As many reviews that I have read before making my version have said, I found it was possible to omit the side invisible zip, as you can pop it on and off without it (well, in my case you can). However the risk with this is that this means that the waist may be slightly too big – despite those wonderful ties that you pull to cinch everything in.

The original Burnside Bibs have been around for a long time now and I must say that they haven’t actually appealed to me before now. But the buzz that I got from putting this dress on for the first time and admiring those perfectly placed carrier loops at the back waist now means that I am certainly going to make more of this pattern and will be wishing for the original overall pattern to be in my stocking this Christmas!
