Betty Dress – Sew Over It

A review of Sew Over It Betty Dress

I made this dress for my wedding. I was having a low-key secret wedding and I had a big thing about wearing something I made. I wanted to have a good fit so I probably shouldnt have left it to the last minute to make!

I lowered the neckline as I dont like anything too close to my neck, this was easy enough – I re-drew the facing from the adapted neckline.

I graded the garment up (my first time grading) which went well, I also I had to do an armhole adjustment which I’d never done before. This was because fabric was poking out of my arm holes and it looked funny. It was easy enough though.

I ended up make a full toile (out of a duvet cover) and three bodice toiles, when I finally got the fit right. Then I sewed it up in taffeta and it didnt fit!! Cotton toile behaves differently to taffeta!! So I cut again out of an Ikea fabric I have and it went swimmingly… until an hour before we were leaving for the ceremony when touching up the invisable zip lead to me cutting the entire thing out and sewing up the back. It worked though!
