Bertha Cardigan

My first make from Tilly’s new book and I’m not impressed.

Bertha is a described as a cropped slouchy cardigan. I tired on the colour blocked pocket hack from the book at The Stitch Festival which was a size 3 but my measurements actually put me at size 7 so I went for a 5 as it’s in the middle and it definitely still has that slouchy look. I do need to shorten the sleeves and waist slightly on my next one.

I’ve since shortened the sleeves which is better but the sleeves are so oversized it’s like I’m wearing an upside down triangle with holes for my hands. I’ll wear them for lounging around the house but they won’t be featured in my out of the house wardrobe.

As with all of Tilly’s patterns and books the instructions are fantastic. Make it Simple is exactly what the title says and each garment is broken down into time slots so if you can only sew in small chunks then it’s perfect.

Cutting out time estimate in the book is 40 minutes and sewing time of 1 hour and 35 minutes. I made this straight on the overlocker and had a cardigan in 1 hour 15 minutes of sewing.

Yes I know the cables are upside down!
