Autumnal Magnolia Dress

Another great pattern from Deer and Doe! The fabric is a lovely autumnal viscose called Vincent Sketch. Thanks to some very creative single layer pattern Tetris I managed to squeeze this out of 2.5m, although the skirt side panels had to be cut upside down to fit. Luckily the fabric print is (hopefully!) too busy to notice 😉

Pattern details:

  • Took 8 inches off the skirt length for Version A to get the midi length
  • Made the sleeves 2-3 inches wider for more pouf
  • Interfaced the waistband – there is a lot of fabric in the skirt, so wanted some extra support on this
  • Instead of staystitching, I used fusible bias tape on the neckline edges as soon as I cut the pieces out to avoid stretching. No joke, this stuff has honestly changed my life. I used to find that no matter how carefully I staystitched, I always managed to stretch the fabric out a bit which would inevitably just result in frustration and gaping. But thanks to the fusible, I had no stretching at all – which also meant no gape on the neckline, hooray!
