An Autumnal Indigo

A review of Tilly and the Buttons Indigo Top and Dress

I couldn’t wait any longer, this style dress is right up my street and there is no hiding from all the wonderful versions of this smock dress/top online. I chose to make the dress version with simple bracelet length sleeves and regular gathers. Check out the hashtag #sewingindigo online for lots of inspiration and especially those versions with the exposed seam frills – I’ll be trying that style next!
My fabric choice is a sage green and orange floral viscose from Abakhan.
The only change that I made to the pattern was to add a 6″ ruffle all around the bottom of the dress ( I did nothing to alter the length of the dress before adding the ruffle). I kinda like the style of #thatzaradress and hope that this is pretty close in it’s style.
A couple of standard alterations that I often have to make – the sleeves were too long and I took 7cm off the length of them to make them bracelet length on me. Also the pockets, whilst wonderful, sit slightly too low for me, not a huge problem but enough for me to position them a couple of inches higher for my next one.
I love it! Kathy x
