Alder Shirtdress

A review of Grainline Studio Alder Shirtdress

This is my Alder Shirtdress. I’ve had my eye on this pattern for a while as my mum made it last year and I really liked the fit and shape of the dress. This was a learning curve for me as I haven’t sewn a collar or button placket before but the sewalong and instructions were so informative that I had no problems in following along. The collar was fiddly and is far from perfect but I am pleased with the final result!

My fabric choice for this was a chambray that I picked up from Minerva Crafts and it worked really well with this pattern. As I was between sizes I cut a 4 – but should have sized up! It was snug across the bust – so I sewed a smaller seam allowance down the side seams and it’s fine. Next time I will probably go for a size 6 🙂

All in all I am really pleased with the result and I can see it getting a lot of wear. I’m looking forward to making some more – next one will be view B with the gathered skirt.
