Vogue V9237 Dress Very Easy Vogue

To state that this clever dress pattern has huge potential for variation is an understatement. Midi, maxi, mini, long sleeves, short sleeves or sleeveless you can sew whatever version you prefer and then some!

Only 5 pattern pieces therefore, an easy pattern and a quick sew, it took me less than a day. Or take your time and turn it into a work of art, I decided to applique my back panel, the choice is yours.

For this version I used a soft draped printed viscose for the main body and back frill, with a lightweight cotton for back panel and sleeves. The fabric choice is personal, but I suggest one with a soft drape for a ‘swishy’ style summer dress. A fine linen would be perfect too.

The sizing on this pattern does not come up large, I found the sleeves were a little to snug for my upper arms and adjusted accordingly. I am 5ft 6″ so the length came to my upper knee, if I make this dress again, I plan on a longer maxi version, I prefer my knees to be hidden!

Dress construction is simple a button and loop back fastening, a bound neckline, set in optional sleeves, a back gathered tier and of course optional pockets.

Viscose frays, so where possible I overlocked hems and edges before sewing. i would also recommend stay stitching the neckline, so it does not stretch out of shape. You could make your own self fabric, bias binding or use shop bought, either way is fine because the binding will not be on show. An alternative fastening for the back of dress would be a ribbon that could be tied in a pretty bow.

I can highly recommend this pattern, it is perfect for beginners and experienced sewist alike, simply a joy to sew and wear.
