A Purple Journey Through the Kelham

Reviewed by Candi Fox on 31st May, 2020

It had been a while since I made a skirt for myself, and I felt that sewing one up over my week of Spring Break would be the perfect project to kick start my sewjo.

The Kelham Skirt by MIY Collection came from my Simply Sewing Magazine pattern stash (Issue 55).

My waist is 28″, hips are 38.5″, and I cut a size 3. Simply Sewing sizes their patterns 1, 2, 3…

The issue was… I was expecting the Kelham to sit at my natural waist, BUT, it’s actually designed to sit lower on the waist.  If I’d really looked at the pictures I would have figured this out, or if I’d paid attention to the instructions for fitting I definitely would have worked it out.  To read more about my adventure in purple corduroy  read on

The skirt has several options to personalize the style to your taste, and can be made up in a wide variety of fabrics with some structure to them.  For my purple cord version, I HAD to have pockets, included a waistband, and opted for the pretty pleat in the front.

I would definitely sew this up again in a lighter fabric, but because I like more definition in the waist, I would also include the waistband once again.
