A knock-out

I bought this pattern immediately on its release based on the cover image of Lisa – I loved the 70’s vibe with the collar and straighter skirt paired with the gorgeous pink leopard print viscose. Luckily SOI stocked some of the fabric as part of the pattern release so I set to work on recreating it immediately.

It is a really great pattern filled with lots of gorgeous design details like the set-back collar and the split cuff.

I made the dress pretty much straight out of the packet. I am just outside of the largest size of the SOI standard sizes range on the hips, but usually I get away with it as I tend to opt towards fit-and-flare style, but the Lois dress was quite straight and didn’t have lots of ease. With the help of one of the ladies at SOI, I did a small adjustment to expand the hip size an extra size and graded back in at the waist to the standard pattern to give my bum a bit more wriggle room!

Like most ladies with a bigger bust, I usually find wrap dress hard to fit, especially in a woven fabric; but amazingly this fits really well! It fits and falls beautifully with no fear of spilling out. The pleats on the front are perfectly placed to add soft shaping.

I really enjoyed making this, and it feels fantastic on. The flat front with elastic back is really flattering.

My only issue is with some of the finishing. I am not super keen on sewing the elastic directly onto the SA and next time think that I will try to fashion a channel instead. The encased neckline is really nice, but is kinda ruined by the facing end on the shoulder – not sure how I would alter this though.

All in all, this is definitely one of my favourite dresses in my wardrobe. Absolutely would recommend!
