A great new pattern company discovery

I discovered NZ-based company The Sewing Revival as a result of my research for the first Sew Over 50 challenge in March 2019 and I’ve now made 2 versions of the Heron dress plus 2 as a top. It’s a very simple silhouette but I love the details of the elasticated neck which makes it a very pretty gathered neckline in a really simple process, no need for gathering threads. You could also use ribbon or cord through the channel here instead. The sleeves have a very deep ruffle cuff which also gather up using wide elastic. Both the neckline and cuffs are constructed in such a way as to be self neatening. The hem is dipped like a shirt hem, I simply shortened and straightened the hem to make the tops, there’s an additional self-belt too. I used a linen and linen mix fabrics for the dresses, a soft cotton lawn for one top and a double gauze fo the other top (which was gift for my SiL) all worked very well, soft georgettes or crepe de chine would give a very pretty effect too. The instructions are very comprehensive with lots of other useful and helpful information too. I wrote a longer review on my blog susanyoungsewing.wordpress.com if you’re interested. I’ve got a Bellbird top planned next
