A great coat with a wide hem

This is a wide hemmed coat with two collar and several length options. I made the view D. I’d recommend sizing down since the size 10 was still a bit big for me and my measurements would have pointed towards the size 12. Luckily I had bought the smaller size range A.

The coat was easy to fit due to the princess seams. The only thing I wished this pattern would have had, was the two-piece sleeve. I ended up drafting a two-piece sleeve pattern for my coat.

I tried to use many couture sewing methods so I didn’t follow the instructions. Besides your regular viscose lining fabric, I added two underlinings. A cotton batiste against the wool blocks the wind and the wool wadding between the batiste and the jacquard lining brings more warmth. This meant I basically had to sew 4 coats but it was worth it.

If you are interested in making a coat like this, I have documented the whole sewing project in great detail on my sewing blog.
