A feminine jumpsuit with a 30’s feel

I purchased this pattern when it was first issued, the jumpsuit having caught my eye. However, for some reason I kept passing over the project until now.

It is a simple pattern, with few pieces that goes together easily. The jumpsuit has wide (almost palazzo) legs, that give drama as well as comfort. It definitely has a 30’s influence and feel.

I made the jumpsuit in a heavy weight stretch jersey that drapes beautifully, but is difficult to press for a crisp finish. I normally cut a size 14 pattern, but in this case cut a size 12 to compensate for the stretch. I even think that I could have gotten away with cutting a 10 for a more fitted look, as there is still plenty of room.

The bodice is lined, and I used a light weight viscose. However, I did find that I needed to cut a size 14 for the lining, to compensate for the lack of stretch in the fabric.

I will definitely make this jumpsuit again, and I am already looking for a heavy weight crepe satin for the next project. I highly recommend this pattern to anyone, and it is certainly suitable for a beginner.
