A Casual Classic

This pattern has been around for a few years, and there are good reasons why it is still so popular.

This is an extremely easy dress to make and the instructions are just as straightforward. I love the simplicity of this dress, no darts, zips, facings or fastenings! There are a variety of dress and sleeve lengths as well necklines to choose from, something to suit everyone.

This is my first attempt at sewing jersey fabric, I have always been hesitant to use it. I had a remnant of a heavy weight jersey in my stash , and so I thought that I would finally face my fear.

I made the dress almost completely using my overlocker, apart from the hems. I have large upper arms, but surpassingly found the sleeves too generous. However this was easily adjusted, and I found the dress to be a perfect fit. The dress took possibly 40 – 50 minutes to sew, what a dream pattern!

I found the neckline that I chose too low for me. However, seeing as there are no darts, I saw no reason not to wear the dress back to front! I actually preferred the high neckline and low back. Something to consider if you have made this dress….it seems that many of you already have!

Finally, to add my own twist to this dress I cut the sleeve to a 3/4 length and added a fluted sleeve.

This is great dress for a holiday wardrobe, or every day wear. There are so many looks that you can create with this pattern, from  casual day time to evening chic depending on your choice of fabric. Having had this pattern in my stash for many years, I am glad that I finally found the time to make it.
