This was the first project I did on my brand-new serger: creating a Plantain tee! Deer and Doe have generously made it available for free.

I made the first one from a navy viscose jersey with long sleeves, but I didn’t use the elbow patch as I didn’t like it. It was super-easy to make and I love how much more efficient my new overlocker made it. You can definitely make it on a regular sewing machine too, though. I really love the fit of it.

I used a thicker jersey for the second one. I didn’t have enough of this grey fabric so I couldn’t make the sleeves any longer. However, I do really like a 1/2 sleeve. Unfortunately this fabric was a little less stretchy so I had some problems with the neck band. In the end, I got that fixed though by adding a little black strip of fabric. I also added some of this black fabric to the sleeves.

More images and info can be found on my blog My new overlocker & the plantain tee.
