Penny Dress – by Colette

A review of Penny Dress - by Colette

The Colette Penny Dress is a brilliant pattern. This version is made in a light cotton lawn, which was perfect for version 2 of the pattern.

I would definitely recommend getting the paper pattern, rather than the PDF as it is a huge file and costs a lot to print. I made a size 6 and it fitted well around the waist, however I had to adjust the fit at the bust and shorten it after making a toile.

There are a lot of pieces, allow for the tracing of your pieces and cutting of your fabric to takes ages. Also, the order of construction and switching between versions is also little unusual, but just trust the pattern – everything is covered. When the dress was finished, I had to alter the suggested position of the poppers as the upper waistband was hanging loose, and I also added a popper at the top of the placket as there aren’t any fastenings here at all!

But honestly – in my opinion this is the best shirt pattern release of the summer. Have a round of applause, Colette!
