Buy the Tahi Skirt and Shrug sewing pattern from Muse Patterns. This is a two-piece pattern – a woven skirt and a knit shrug that are great worn individually or together!

The Tahi Skirt takes inspiration from 1940s designs, featuring asymmetric angled panels on the front, a lapped zipper at the centre back, and a slim waistband that sits at the natural waist and fastens in the centre back with a button. Make the Tahi Skirt in a slim A-line cut, or choose flared panels on one side at the front for added drape detail. Prefer simpler skirts? There’s a basic slim A-line version of the Tahi Skirt to make as well. All three versions of the Tahi Skirt can be made in knee-length or maxi-length, and either lined or unlined.

The Tahi Shrug also nods back to the 1940s, with its open front, curved hems, and set-in sleeves. There are four sleeve variations to choose from – a short sleeve that puffs out slightly then gathers into a wide band, or a classic narrow sleeve with a lightly-gathered sleeve head that can be made in short, 3/4 or full length. A narrow band around the hem of the Tahi Shrug gives an easy, tidy finish. With a slim fit and shaped side seams, the Tahi Shrug is designed to sit well over dresses, blouses and close-fitting tops. A wonderfully versatile garment!

Tahi is suitable for all seasons. Make the knee-length skirt in a tweed with lining, and the shrug with long sleeves in a wool knit for a winter outfit. Or use a cotton or rayon for the skirt and a lace knit for a short-sleeved version of the shrug for summer.

Suggested fabrics:

The skirt can be made in a variety of woven fabrics. Cotton, linen, wool, rayon, light-mid weight denim – all are suitable. For variation B with the flared panels, choose a fabric that drapes well. You could make a knee-length version of the Tahi Skirt in a midweight denim. Or a maxi length with flared panels in a soft rayon.

Make the shrug in light-medium weight jersey/knit fabrics, such as merino wool, wool or acrylic blends, cotton knit, cotton blends, or even stretch lace. Make a cosy shrug for winter in a wool blend, or a lightweight one to throw on in spring or summer in a cotton or lace knit!
