Buy the 116 Unisex Shirts of Russia and Ukraine sewing pattern from Folkwear. This pattern offers three shirts typical of late 19th century Ukraine and Russia. Each has a high snug collar, a lined shoulder area, and narrow side panels.

The simplest version, View A, is a typical straight sleeved Ukrainian shirt. The centre front opening has facings turned to the outside and closes with hooks and eyes. Instructions for traditional twisted thread ties are also given.

View B, from North Central Ukraine, features an overlap side closing. The sleeves are gathered into narrow cuffs. The cuffs and collar may be fastened with hooks and eyes or traditional button-and-loop closures.

The off-centre side placket in View C is a Russian feature. Its folded construction conceals a buttoned closing. The sleeves are identical to View A.

In all three views, the collar, sleeve hems or cuffs, and front opening may be left untrimmed, finished with braid, or embroidered. Authentic embroidery designs are given for each view.

Note if purchasing copy shop printing: One of the pattern pieces is divided across two A0 sheets. The two sheets will need to be joined with no overlap. 

Suggested fabrics: Light or medium-weight soft fabrics such as cotton, homespun, broadcloth, linen, chambray, muslin, rayon challis, lightweight wool, or silk.

Fabric requirements: Fabrics with nap, pile, or one-way design are not suitable for this garment.

36″ (91 cm) wide fabric: 3 1/2 – 3 3/4 yd (3.2 – 3.44 m) // 45″ (115 cm) wide fabric: 2 1/4 – 3 3/4 yd (2.05 – 3.44 m).

Sizing: Men’s S – XL / Women’s US 6 – 20 (approx. UK 4/6 – 16, based on our standardised size chart). Please also check the designer’s size chart and finished garment measurements.

Notions: Thread // View A: Hooks and eyes or 6 yd (5.5 m) crochet cotton for optional ties // View B: Hooks and eyes or five or six buttons; 1/2″ (13 mm) bias tape, 1/2 yd (0.5 m) // View C: Five or six buttons.
