Buy the Joy Dress sewing pattern from Maven Patterns. Joy is the perfect easy-to-wear dress. It’s a versatile addition to your summer wardrobe, comfortable and yet smart enough for any occasion. Style Joy with flip flops for the beach, trainers for sightseeing or heels for cocktails on the terrace. Joy can be casual and fun or choose a luxurious silky fabric to make a chic statement dress. Joy could even be layered over a skinny t-shirt or roll neck on cooler days. Joy has a slim A-line shape with a relaxed fit through the waist, (optional) in-seam pockets, a frilled hem and adjustable tie straps. Version B has a little more ease due to the gathering detail on the back bodice. Joy is midi length.

Suggested fabrics: Light to medium weight woven fabrics such as crepe de chine, bamboo silk, viscose, rayon, chambray, linen, double gauze, cotton lawn, poplin, broderie Anglaise and lighter weight denims. A drapier fabric will perform better for the back gathering detail on Version B.

Fabric requirements: Fabric requirements have been calculated as a one way (one directional/with nap) open lay – with the fabric cut in a single layer. You may save fabric if you decide to rotate some of your pattern pieces and interlock them. Repeating patterns, check, stripe or pattern matching may take more fabric.

110 cm (43″) wide fabric: Version A, 3.25 – 3.4 m (3 5/8 – 3 7/8 yd) // Version B, 3.25 – 3.4 m (3 5/8 – 3 7/8 yd).

150 cm (59″) wide fabric: Version A, 2.25 – 2.35 m (2 1/2 – 2 5/8 yd) // Version B, 2.45 – 2.6 m (2 3/4 – 2 7/8 yd).

Sizing: UK 8 – 20 (approx. UK 8 – 18/20, based on our standardised size chart). Please also check the designer’s size chart and finished garment measurements.

Notions: Matching thread; iron-on fusible interfacing, 50 cm x 90 cm wide (20″ x 36″) or ready-made fusible stay tape. If using ready-made fusible stay tape, you will just need a piece of interfacing 10 cm wide x 20 cm (4″ x 8″) for the pocket mouth opening.
