Buy the Shau Vest sewing pattern from Itch to Stitch. The Shau Vest is perfect for layering over a fitted blouse, turtleneck, T-shirt or dress. It not only elevates your outfit, but also adds warmth. Shau features an asymmetric front, waist and armhole darts, and options for different cup sizes. You also have the option to line or not line, and the edges can be finished with piping or bias tape.

– PDF pattern + Printed A0 copy shop (We print out the A0 pattern sheets, but you’ll need to download the digital instructions, as we don’t print these. The PDF files will be emailed immediately after purchase, and the A0 pattern sheets will be dispatched next working day). What is Copy Shop?

If ordering a copy shop pattern, please choose from the following options: sizes 00-20 with an A cup, sizes 00-20 with a B cup, sizes 00-20 with a C cup, sizes 00-20 with a D cup, sizes 00-20 with a DD cup, sizes 16-40 with a B cup, sizes 16-40 with a C cup, sizes 16-40 with a D cup, sizes 16-40 with a DD cup.

Suggested fabrics: 

Primary fabric: Use medium weight woven fabric or stable knit fabric. Brocade, jacquard, twill, broadcloth, chambray, linen, wool blend, ponte, and scuba are great choices.

Lining (optional): Use stable woven fabric such as cotton, polyester lining, rayon/viscose lining, flannel or flannel back satin lining.

Fabric requirements: 

Primary fabric: 54″ (135 cm) wide fabric: 3/4 – 1 3/4 yd (70 – 160 cm) // 44″ (110 cm) wide fabric: 7/8 – 1 3/4 yd (80 – 160 cm).

Lining (optional): 54″ (135 cm) wide fabric: 3/4 – 1 3/4 yd (70 – 160 cm) // 44″ (110 cm) wide fabric: 7/8 – 1 3/4 yd (80 – 160 cm).

Sizing: US 00 – 40 (approx. UK 6/8 – 34/36, based on our standardised size chart). Please also check the designer’s size chart and finished garment measurements.

Sizes 00-20 have A, B, C, D and DD cups. Sizes 22-40 have B, C, D and DD cups.

A note from the designer about bust cup options: To determine your cup size, subtract the circumference of your over bust from the circumference of the fullest part of your bust. If the rounded difference is 1″ (2.5 cm), use A cup; 2″ (5 cm), use B cup; 3″ (7.5 cm), use C cup; 4″ (10 cm), use D cup; 5″ (12.5 cm), use DD cup.

Notions: Three sets of toggle fasteners; 1/2″ (12.7 mm)-wide piping bias tape OR 1/2″ (12.7 mm)-wide double-fold bias tape, 4.5 yd (4 m) for sizes 00-10, 5 yd (4.5 m) for sizes 12-20, 6 yd (5.5 m) for sizes 22-40. Note if you choose to not line your vest, you can only use double-fold bias tape (not piping bias tape) to finish the edges.
