Buy the Basics Jacket sewing pattern from Folkwear. This simple, fully lined jacket is the perfect piece – no matter the season. The roomy fit, simple open front design, and built-on sleeves create a lovely jacket that can be made with many different fabrics. The design features a back seam and side seams, patch pockets, and bound sleeve openings. Because this jacket form is so simple, it makes a perfect canvas for creativity. Show off your quilting, appliqué, or embroidery skills. Try hand painting or dyeing techniques. Use coordinating or unique combinations of fabric for the outer layer and lining. The possibilities are endless. This is also an easy project to make a reversible jacket.

Note if purchasing copy shop printing: One pattern piece is divided across two A0 sheets. The A0 sheets will need to be joined with no overlap. 

Suggested fabrics: 

Outer layer: Mid-weight fabric such as cotton, linen, silk, wool, or a sturdy knit. Heavier-weight fabric such as wool, denim, or lightweight canvas.

Lining: Light to mid-weight fabric such as above. Lining should be the same weight or lighter weight than outer layer.

Fabric requirements: Yardages given are without nap, pile, or one-way design. This pattern is not appropriate for fabrics with nap, pile, or one-way design.

Outer layer: 45″ (115 cm) wide fabric: 3 – 3 1/4 yd (2.7 – 3 m) // 60″ (150 cm) wide fabric: 2 1/2 – 2 7/8 yd (2.3 – 2.6 m).

Lining: 45″ (115 cm) wide fabric: 3 – 3 1/4 yd (2.7 – 3 m) // 60″ (150 cm) wide fabric: 2 1/2 – 2 7/8 yd (2.3 – 2.6 m).

Sizing: XS – 3XL (approx. UK 4/6 – 28/30, based on our standardised size chart). Please also check the designer’s size chart and finished garment measurements.
