Buy the 211 Unisex Two Middies sewing pattern from Folkwear. The middy has been a fashion classic for over a hundred years, although it has been a part of naval tradition since the days of sailing ships. Its popularity peaked in the 1920s when newly-liberated women wore middies for active sports and with skirts for more dressy occasions.

View A is the very simple garment worn by British seamen in tropical climes. Traditionally made of a white cotton twill with blue binding around a square neck, the shirt featured short sleeves and a self-patch in the back. In the 1920s, View B was worn for school, office and sports, paired with a pleated skirt. Comfortable and practical, it has been popular fishing and camping wear for decades. A square middy collar, short set-in sleeves, band cuffs and a side buttoned hip band detail this popular shirt. A tab below the V-neck opening catches the contrasting scarf or tie often worn with this middy. Instructions for a neck tie are included.

View A: 45″ (115 cm) wide fabric: Women’s, 1 1/2 – 2 yd (1.4 – 1.8 m) / Men’s, 1 5/8 – 2 1/8 yd (1.5 – 1.9 m) // 60″ (150 cm) wide fabric: Women’s, 1 5/8 yd (1.5 m) / Men’s, 1 3/4 yd (1.6 m).

View B: 45″ (115 cm) wide fabric: Women’s, 1 1/2 – 2 1/4 yd (1.4 – 2.1 m) / Men’s, 1 5/8 – 2 1/4 yd (1.5 – 2.1 m) // 60″ (150 cm) wide fabric: Women’s, 1 1/4 – 1 3/4 yd (1.14 – 1.6 m) / Men’s, 1 1/4 – 1 7/8 yd (1.14 – 1.75 m).

Sizing: Women’s XS – 2XL (approx. UK 6 – 24) and Men’s S – 2XL. Please check and size charts and finished garment measurements.
