Buy the 233 Glamour Girl Dress sewing pattern from Folkwear. The glamour emanating from Hollywood in the 1930s and 1940s held the American public in thrall. Movie studios published still photographs of their stars in elegant attire, and fans clamoured for the chance to copy the dresses, coiffures, and make-up of their favourites. The Glamour Girl Dress is a stunning example of early 1940s styling, designed to emphasise feminine curves, drape elegantly, and give the wearer an aura of discrete sexiness.

A close-fitting bodice is highlighted by a narrow “V” neckline. The front bodice and skirt gather onto a curved midriff that ties at the centre front, providing a snug individual fit. A fitted back hip yoke ensures a smooth line. The flared skirt drapes gracefully at centre front and back bias seams. The three-quarter length sleeves are distinctively gathered at the elbow. The dress zips at the left side seam. Shoulder pads are essential for the proper early 1940s silhouette.

Three lengths are offered: the ankle length of the original evening gown, a 1940s daytime knee length, and a strictly contemporary mid-calf length.

Note the reasonable yardage requirements, which reflect the need to conserve fabric during the Second World War.

Ankle-length dress: 45″ (115 cm) wide fabric: 3 7/8 – 4 5/8 yd (3.5 – 4.2 m) // 60″ (150 cm) wide fabric: 3 – 3 3/8 yd (2.7 – 3.1 m).

Sizing: XS – 3XL (approx. UK 4/6 – 28/30, based on our standardised size chart). Please also check the designer’s size chart and finished garment measurements.
