The Bardot Dress

Last year, I chose this pattern to make my make with Christmasy fabric. It’s an easy pattern. I like the lines of the dress as they are simple and allow for colour blocking if desired. The dress has two versions with raglan sleeves short and 3/4. The instructions are basic, but if you have made a dress before, you already know what to do. Because my fabric was a bit see-through, (and not wanting to show off my undergarments while wearing it or stressing that I need to find undergarments that are not seen), I decided to underline it with red fabric and make the sash and sleeves in red, as well as using the bias finish to the outside. This to stop the dress from being all white as well. I made two toiles of the bodice as with previous patterns from SimpleSew I had to lengthen the bodice before doing an FBA (full bust adjustment). In the end, it seemed I no longer need to lengthen the bodice. I also had to shorten the skirt by about 6 cm so the hem hits just above the knee. Another thing I did differently, was to finish the hem on the sleeves with bias tape as well. I also decided to use a normal zip so I did a lapped zip insertion instead of an invisible zip. I love my dress and think it’s a lovely style that would suit most shapes.
