RAYMOND Coat

I love this pattern!

It was my first coat and in terms of fitting there aren’t any darts or things like that as it’s designed to be loose fitting.

The lining is a good size as well as it has enough ease that it doesn’t cause bagging.

Having said that, the sizing chart wasn’t great for me. I was across three sizes going by my bust, waist and hip measurements, and my arm circumference was larger than the biggest size.
I chose the second largest size (I am an Australian size 12) and it fits me pretty well.

The other issue I had was that the instructions assumed a lot of knowledge, especially when you get to the lining and inserting the lining. I did ok because I have been sewing for a long time, but this is definitely not for beginners! (They did have a link to more detailed instructions on their website but I couldn’t access them).

If I were to make this again I would probably make the collar about an inch shorter as it overlaps slightly at the top. I don’t mind it, but it would look even better if I did that I think!

Overall, I really enjoyed making this coat! It also gave me an opportunity to try out some couture techniques like securing the excess inside, and handstitched button holes which were things I wanted to have a go at.

If you’re an intermediate or advanced level sew-er then definitely have a go! It’s cosy warm!
