LUZERNE Trench Coat

Reviewed by SewSarahSmith on 19th October, 2018

I sewed this Trench as I was really feeling the need to push my sewing out of its comfort zone and try and tackle a few new techniques…such as the bound buttonholes. Deer & Doe list this as an advanced pattern, but if you’ve sewn a Shirtdress or similar, then you can sew this coat! It’s an involved sew but not overly complex…I’d say in all it took me about 10 days, off and on, to complete.

Deer & Does instructions are pared back compared to a lot of indie patterns…you are instructed to ‘do’ for the most part. I have writtten a short series of blog posts covering my journey in putting this together over at

In short, I love this pattern! I’d say, watch out if your longer waisted or taller, as I think their bodice block is relatively short…I’m 5.3”’ slightly long waisted though, and it hits me in the right place.

Highly recommended!
