Ellsworth Coat

This pattern is the bee’s knees! This was the first proper coat I have made (except a coatigan a few months back) and I would class it as the perfect entry level coat. There are enough details to make it look interesting and special, such as top-stitching and a notched collar, and the patched pockets and merciful lack of welt pockets make it doable for a scardy-cat like me.

I used a wool/acrylic coating from my local market and a standard acetate lining. You can use either 8 or 6 buttons for this and as I only had 6 the coat can’t be buttoned all the way to the top but I have a perfectly complementary snood and it works a treat.

The instructions were very clear and were accompanied by detailed drawings/diagrams which is always a bonus. All in all it took me about a week – a full day of sewing on the Sunday and then evenings after work.

I had heard it runs a bit big so I sized down one size based on my bust measurements. I also took the sleeves up 1.5cm as I always have to alter arm lengths but I don’t think this was even necessary.

I have written a full review on my blog if anyone fancies a more detailed read http://helloyellowclub.com/60s-ellsworth-coat/
