Doris dress

The Doris is a 50s feminine dress, perfect for the summer. The fabric recommendations are lightweight women’s and I choose this viscose with a Matt finish.
The pattern has 2 length versions, knee length – mid thigh and 2 options for the finish at the back. I went with the tie back version as I think it adds to the dreamy style of the dress.
The bodice came together easily, the sleeves are grown on so no problems setting them in. The button opening is not really needed because the side zip gives the fitting so I made mock buttons and closed the two sides together with stitching. One improvement I would do next time is to change the finish on the sleeves. The instructions give a narrow double hem but I would prefer to finish them with Bias binding as in the Sew Over It Vintage shirt dress pattern.
The fluted skirt is made of 7 pieces and it gives a beautiful feminine shape, semi fitted around the upper thigh. The short length is quite short but as a summer dress it exactly what I want.
The Doris has filled the space in my summer wardrobe for a cool lightweight summer dress that would transition easily from day to night.
