Sew Reporter – 17th July

Happy Sunday Fold Liners! How are we all? We hope you’ve made it through the extremely hot week. We’ve got some lovely patterns to cool you down as well as a fantastic new jean pattern from Anna Allen to get your teeth stuck into. Go grab an iced drink and let’s get going..

Chuleenan has done it again! She’s made a cropped version of the Megan Neilsen Hovea jacket using the most beautiful Nani Iro ombre fabric. If you head over to her blog you can also see how she added a secret inside pocket.  A feature I absolutely loved.

Do you already have a specific design in mind? Or do you need some help finding the perfect pattern for your fabric? You can search all the patterns in our database using our newly updated sewing-specific search tool.

For the jean lovers out there, you are going to need these in your life. The Helene Selvedge jeans from Anna Allen are a traditional jean pattern using a non-stretch denim. They are high-waisted with the traditional five pocket detail. There is slight shaping at the hip as well as four different leg cuts. If you wanted to see them on a few different people then there are already some fab makes popping up on Instagram.

The textile artist Cas Holmes is doing a talk at the Fashion and Textile Museum on the 21st of July. With a focus on embroidery, she will be talking about her practice, her heritage, and how her environment inspires her.  It should be a lovely event and the tickets at £5.

Many will be fans of Tatty Devine, their fantastic fun and colourful jewellery has become iconic. If you happen to be Brighton this summer there is an exhibition running at the Hove Centre until the 4th of September about their evolution.

We all love having something fantastic to listen to while we sew and this podcast is well worth checking out. Annie Mac interviews famous people about big changes in their life, that shaped them into who they are today. She’s a wonderful interviewer and her thoughtful questions ensure a really interesting conversation. Particular favourites include an interview with Emily Eavis about Glastonbury and food critic Grace Dent.

Don’t forget today is the last day to get 50% off New Look Patterns so if there is something you’ve had your eye on then head over and grab it now!

Come and join our sewing Facebook group where we are chatting about sewing plans, new patterns and helping each other out with projects.
